PvP in Forever: what changes for you

Honor, Rank Points, gear and a changed toolkit: your PvP guide with a rank table and the latest launch hotfixes.

A fresh start in PvP

FOR RETURNING CLASSIC PLAYERS

Start with three questions: Where do you want to fight? Which reward is your next goal? Which old habits still work in Forever?

This guide covers getting started and documented system changes. It is not a class tier list. Recommendations are labelled, with official sources linked in each section.

Maps & battleground guides

Individual guides to Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Darkspear Islands and Alterac Valley: objectives, maps, assignments and tactical examples.

Choose your ruleset and faction first

Normal offers voluntary PvP. PvP exposes you to attacks from the opposing faction throughout much of the open world. Roleplay-PvP combines that conflict with roleplaying rules.

Separate ruleset ecosystems replace the old list of individual realms. To play together, choose the same ruleset and faction. The PvP ruleset restricts your characters to one faction; faction-balancing systems may also limit character creation.

Our recommendation: Agree as a group before creating characters. Choose world PvP if you enjoy unexpected encounters while travelling. Consider Normal if you would rather control when you learn PvP.

Honor, Rank Points and weekly progress

Honor pays for purchases; Rank Points determine your rank. PvP activities and relevant quests provide progress, with bonuses during selected battleground weeks. Rank progression has a weekly cap. Check your values and purchases in the Character Pane’s PvP tab.

Seasonal tasks also provide progress. Three tasks per season additionally award one Legacy Point each; these tasks remain available in later seasons.

The overview gives no numeric weekly cap. Do not infer an Honor limit or a specific number of weekly rank increases.

Gear: from blue to epic

Epic set upgrades need the blue base item plus an Emboldened Seal with a rank requirement. A rank unlocks a purchase; it does not automatically give you the item.

A changed toolkit, not the same old reflexes

Racial abilities have changed. For crowd control, one important example is Will of the Forsaken: it still removes Charm, Fear and Sleep but no longer grants immunity afterwards. Stoneform now reduces Physical damage rather than simply increasing Armor.

Hit chance and critical strike chance each combine their spell, melee and ranged versions. This changes how hybrid gear is evaluated; it is not a universal list of optimal PvP stats.

Class tools have changed too: Hunters can use traps in combat. Check your class’s current talents and tooltips before importing an old Era build.

Launch hotfixes that matter in PvP

  • 5 November: Plainsrunning can no longer stack during battleground preparation; carrying a flag removes stacks and prevents further stacking.
  • 6 November: The Cooldown Manager correctly displays crowd-control durations with diminishing returns and mechanical reductions. This is a display correction, not an announced redesign of crowd-control mechanics.
  • 6 November: A bug involving Shadowmeld and the Druid abilities Ravage/Pounce was fixed. Do not rely on older clips showing that interaction.

Still planned: On 6 November, Blizzard announced further class tuning planned for 10 November. That is after this guide’s review date; planned changes are not treated here as already active.

Our plan for your first PvP sessions

This sequence is our recommendation, not a required progression path:

  1. Pick one goal: Write down a reward from the rank table. After a session, you can check whether you moved closer to it.
  2. Set up your tools: Put interrupts, control abilities, defensive tools and any PvP items you own on accessible keys. Read their tooltips first.
  3. Choose a learning objective: Practise protecting an ally or repositioning after using a defensive ability. Judge a match by more than damage dealt.
  4. Compare before purchasing: Check your rank, the base item and vendor requirements. Plan an upgrade once all its requirements are clear.

Questions returning players ask

Can I still use a Classic Era guide?
For ideas. Check every claim about talents, racials and rewards against the current Forever version.
Which class is best now?
This system guide does not provide a reliable ranking of every class. Pick your role first, then consult a current guide for your specialisation.
How many hours does rank 14 take?
The official overviews reviewed here do not provide a reliable hours calculation. A fixed grind estimate would be speculation.
