How to obtain the material
Look for it as an occasional extra while gathering herbs; a separate Frilled Lichen plant is not established. Earthroot, Mageroyal and Briarthorn have reports.
This reagent is an extra alongside ordinary herbs. Isolated reports from other loot types do not establish a reliable replacement for Herbalism.
Current item data · Recorded gathers
Before setting out
- Learn Herbalism and enable herb tracking.
- Earthroot requires Herbalism 15, Mageroyal 50 and Briarthorn 70. These are plant requirements, not separate Frilled Lichen thresholds.
- Keep bag space for ordinary herbs and the scarce extra.
Locations and observations
Teldrassil / Ban’ethil Hollow
Material records list an Earthroot gather at Ban’ethil Hollow. The plant overview lists nodes last seen on 7 November; the exact date of the scarce material gather is not exposed.

Durotar
Durotar has a first-person October beta report. Current node records show Earthroot there; those records alone do not establish a new Frilled Lichen find on 7 November.
More player reports
Wowhead players report Mageroyal near Camp Taurajo in the Barrens, Briarthorn in Westfall and a find near Shadowgale Forest on Zephras Isle. Comment dates and builds are not visible in the extracted records.

Teldrassil: Dolanaar and Ban’ethil Hollow
A manageable search circuit joins recorded gathering types to a supply point. Adapt its length to your character and visible resources.
- 1Recorded position · 45.1 / 55.4
- 2Recorded position · 50.4 / 60.6
Schematic order — not a map to scale or spawn markers.
- Start in Dolanaar, clear bag space and enable herb tracking.
- Head west toward Ban’ethil Hollow and search its outer slopes for Earthroot.
- Link the recorded plant locations west of Dolanaar into a short outdoor circuit; entering the den is unnecessary for this material.
- Return to Dolanaar, following visible herb markers along the way; a recorded node position may currently be empty.
Map percentages from observations; not guaranteed rare-material drops.
Teldrassil · 45.1 / 55.4Teldrassil · 50.4 / 60.6A recorded scarce find comes from Earthroot in Teldrassil. The points below are observed herb positions, not individually confirmed rare-material finds. Dolanaar and the circuit order are our navigation plan.
When crowded: Search another accessible section or combine the circuit with quests. Do not wait at a reported point for an assumed fixed respawn time.

Durotar: Razor Hill and the northern slopes
A manageable search circuit joins recorded gathering types to a supply point. Adapt its length to your character and visible resources.
- 1Recorded position · 42.9 / 44.9
- 2Recorded position · 44.9 / 20.1
Schematic order — not a map to scale or spawn markers.
- Start in Razor Hill and check the slopes west of the settlement for Earthroot.
- Extend the circuit north toward Orgrimmar while you can safely pass the local enemies.
- Gather visible Earthroot and add Mageroyal where your Herbalism skill permits.
- Use the road to return to Razor Hill and repeat the sections that actually have visible herbs.
Map percentages from observations; not guaranteed rare-material drops.
Durotar · 42.9 / 44.9Durotar · 44.9 / 20.1The scarce-material sighting comes from an October beta report. Recorded Earthroot positions support the area choice but do not prove a current drop rule. The northern leg is optional and can lengthen the circuit considerably.
When crowded: Search another accessible section or combine the circuit with quests. Do not wait at a reported point for an assumed fixed respawn time.

Prepare Cerulean Dye
Choose the number of Alchemy crafts. Each needs two Frilled Lichen and one Empty Vial. This does not establish a fixed number of herb nodes to gather.
- 2Frilled LichenLook for a scarce Herbalism extra or obtain through trade.
- 1Empty VialObtain from suitable profession suppliers.
Materials for 1 batch.
Cerulean Dye feeds other professions, including Tailoring projects and Engineering intermediates. Plan dye production as a separate step and reserve raw lichen separately for other learned recipes.
Set a short session window, for example 20 minutes. This is a planning interval, not a measured circuit time or yield guarantee. Count eligible gathering actions and rare finds separately.
- Clear your bags and keep raw reagents separate from processed ingredients.
- Keep ordinary ore, herbs or leather for your own recipes or trade.
- Change sections when crowded, or combine gathering with quests.
- After the session, compare your remaining shortage with current player trade or a vendor offer.
Interpreting level claims
The often-cited level25 cutoff comes from October beta tests. The checked sources do not establish it as a current Blizzard rule. The tester later withdrew the claim that gray mobs were excluded.
Vendors and player trade
Player records also list Frilled Lichen at Mister Graphed in Powderfuse Port, Riverglades. Check current price and stock in game; the records contain no confirmed vendor price. Compare remaining shortages with player trade as well.
